Acne is a chronic disease in which periods of exacerbation and remission alternate. Studies have shown that the number of microcomedones decreases during the use of the products and increases after their withdrawal. This suggests that with acne it is advisable to use care products constantly: during the exacerbation period - in order to put the disease into remission, and during the remission period - in order to reduce the likelihood of a second exacerbation. Which products are advisable to use during the exacerbation period, and which ones during the remission period?
One of the remedies that experts often prescribe for acne is azelaic acid. Azelaic acid is naturally found in barley, wheat and rye grains, as well as in the fungus Malassezia furfur ( Pityrosporum ovale ), which is part of the normal microflora of human skin. Therefore, we can say that azelaic acid is not alien to our skin and understands it well. Azelaic acid provides a full range of effective actions necessary for skin care for acne. The most effective concentration of azelaic acid for acne is a concentration of 20%. It is appropriate to use this concentration of azelaic acid at the stage of exacerbation. When the exacerbation passes, it is possible to continue skin care using a lower concentration of azelaic acid - 10%.
Azelaic acid is used for both acne and papulopustular rosacea. The effectiveness of azelaic acid has been proven by numerous studies. Therefore, it is included in the treatment protocols for both rosacea and acne.
